Nigel Goodall is a British-born author with more than twenty books on the movie and pop worlds to his credit, which combined, have sold over a million copies worldwide, and include the bestselling What's Eating Johnny Depp, and a prize-nominated biography of Winona Ryder. A leading authority on the American actress, and now recognised as Ryder's foremost biographer, he was also the production associate for C4's The Real Winona Ryder. Although an English native, his love of American movies led to a long overdue, first-ever biography of Demi Moore, The Most Powerful Woman in Hollywood, which was also the source and basis for three major television documentaries, transmitted in the USA, Canada and Europe. He has also penned the previously untold story of Hollywood icon Christian Slater. Nigel’s other books – on rock music and musicians - include Elton John: A Visual Documentary, an illustrated biography of the Rolling Stones first ten years, Cher and George Michael In Their Own Words, and with co-author Peter Lewry; The Ultimate Queen, and a trilogy of highly acclaimed books on Cliff Richard. With and without Peter, he has also written numerous articles for magazines and contributed to various album, video and television projects. He was most recently seen in the A&E Biographies of Demi Moore and Christian Slater. One of the early highlights in his writing career was an exclusive interview with Cliff Richard and the opportunity to observe the singer at work in the studio for his 1990 co-authored account of Cliff's recording sessions. He and Peter have also been instrumental in the revival of Cliff's back catalogue of recordings for over a decade, with some notable merits, such as the lost album from 1962, Live At The ABC Kingston, and the pioneer packaging (by Phil Smee) for the Summer Holiday special edition that has since been mirrored by BMG’s Elvis FTD collector’s label. As an Elvis catalogue enthusiast himself, Nigel has also compiled and written sleeve notes for the Elvis 'Ultimate Collections' in BMG's Millennium Master series. He also lent his Presley expertise to The Live Greatest Hits and the JXL remix of Elvis' # 1 hit, A Little Less Conversation, and is due to launch his own telling of Elvis with an exclusive audio and ebook. Born in Folkestone, Kent, he studied history, English literature, and art at St George's School in Tunbridge Wells, and more recently, screenwriting at the Raindance Film School in London. Nigel, who travels occasionally to New York and Los Angeles for author interviews, was married for 20 years before his divorce in 1992, and has two children and two grandsons. Formely a graphic designer with over 300 record sleeves to his name, a brief spell as a pop manager, voice-over artist and disc jockey, and the co-producer of the syndicated 1978 Elvis Gospel radio special, he was also an actor for drama groups in Sussex, where he still lives. Complimenting his top ten bestseller, Kylie Naked: A Biography, co-authored with Jenny Stanley-Clarke, Nigel also penned the liner notes for the 2002 upgraded reissue of Kylie's original 1992 Greatest Hits album with Neil Rees and Tom Parker. Since then, he has again teamed up with Neil for Ultimate Kylie and the programme notes for Kylie Showgirl. A writer intrigued and fascinated with celebrity for almost twenty years, Nigel's most recent books have included biographies on Davina McCall, Ray Winstone and Fearne Cotton. His current biography on release is David Tennant: A Life in Time and Space, which examines the joys and frustrations of being the most powerful actor on British television. |
